Mom and Dad

Here's my wonderful Mom and Dad, Rose and Al Schmidt. They still live in Monroe, Wisconsin where I grew up. Mom was a medical secretary and transcriptionist for many years. Dad is an archeology enthusiast and has collected numerous Indian artifacts in the midwest. He has found, documented, and helped to protect important Indian burial sites in Wisconsin.

National Geographic

I'm really excited. There is going to be a short article about my talking bat children in an upcoming issue of the National Geographic magazine (Geographica section) in 2005. I can't wait to see it.

Growth on Lip

Here's a photo of an odd growth on the lip of a Mexican free-tailed bat (Tadarida brasiliensis). I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't seem to bother the little guy. He had a bad wing injury as well, although it has healed up, he won't be a releasable bat as the wing extends out a little.
